I finished the Rosette for the Winter guitar last night and was going to put it into the top today. It has snowflakes all around and took me at least 4-5 hours to make... however...I have decided not to use it. Now that it's done it just looks "too much". Oh well...it isn't the first time something looked better on paper...
Bill, do you have any pix of that Winter rosette? Maybe you could take a poll to see if others thought it was TOO much. Or at least we could get a look at some more of your creativity. (Just a whine from a guy needing some more inspiration!)

Steve

sure...here ya go...
It's still rough since it did not end up getting installed.

here is the roseete that I went with instead...it looks fairly standard right now but there is a little twist to it that will be evident later in the build.

Bill,
That snowflake rosette is very nice. I think it would be a shame to not use it in a guitar. Just my humble opinion.

Bill that is a beautiful guitar. Second guitar. The bar just keeps getting higher. I like the snowflake rosette.

Perhaps somewhere down the line I'll use it. It's not that I thought it came out badly it's just not the look I was after.

Bob Cefalu said it succinctly: "the bar just keeps getting higher."

Man, I hope my 100th guitar looks half as good as your 2nd! Absolutely brilliant work!

And, I agree with your assessment of your snowflake rosette. It's a bit much, especially compared to the artistry of the leaves on the Autumn guitar. I think one of the most powerful elements on the Autumn guitar is the sense of randomness in the falling leaves, just like falling leaves. Though the area of a rosette is a much smaller medium, I'd like to offer the suggestion that you may want to try to recapture the "randnomonium" of falling snowflakes there, rather than a fixed pattern. And, no one says the snowflakes would need to be shown in there entirety at the inner edge, nor are you restricted to the black ring for the outer edge of the flakes. I realize you have installed a shell ring at this point, but I am pretty sure you have something up your sleeve...

Dennis
